Recreational center could come to Edenwald

Residents living the Edenwald and Baychester sections of the borough could be getting a recreational center in their area.
State and community leaders on Friday took a tour of the 29-acre grounds at 1250 229th St. - the home of Family of Services, which is city-owned property.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation is now seeking bids to develop the area into a $40 million recreational center for the northeast Bronx.
For years, residents say they have been fighting to get a designated center for kids in the area. Many say they have had to travel out of their neighborhood to get to the nearest youth center.
Companies have until Jan. 27 to submit their proposals to the city, which will then select a developer.
Community leaders say they hope to see ground broken within six months.
