Bronx tenants file lawsuit against landlord for deplorable living conditions

The Tenant Rights Coalition filed a lawsuit in Bronx Supreme Court Monday against Moshe Piller, who ranks fourth on the public advocate's list of the city's worst landlords.

The group says it is seeking monetary damages for the landlord's alleged breach of the warranty of habitability due to conditions at 1775 Davidson Ave.

It's the second lawsuit filed against Piller in the last three months. The first, filed in Housing Court in October, sought to force the landlord to make repairs.

The group says tenants were subjected to dangerous and unsanitary conditions because their landlord has refused to address problems in the building for several years.

The filing alleges that residents had been without cooking gas for seven months. It also says that the building faces rat and roach infestations, inadequate access to heat and hot water and an elevator that is routinely out of service.

Piller's management company says it brings in an exterminator once a month and attributed the gas shutdown to repair work by Con Edison.
