Phone pole falls on minivan in Norwood
Two telephone poles and a street light fell down near East Gun Hill Road and Wayne Avenue Tuesday morning.
One of the poles struck a parked minivan at 3514 Wayne Ave., which was the only vehicle in the vicinity due to alternate-side parking rules, according to resident Shawana Boykin, of Norwood.
Boykin says she heard a loud noise when the poles fell -- apparently knocked over by gusting wind and rain.
The cleanup took hours, continuing into the night.
Officials say no one suffered any injuries, although the two power lines brought live wires down to the street level. Con Ed crews spent hours securing the scene, and surprisingly, no buildings in the area lost power.
Crews from Con Ed and Optimum were on the scene to conduct repairs.
