Vigil held to mark 3-year anniversary of Bronx mother’s death
Family and friends are remembering a Bronx mother killed three years ago after taking a bullet to save her daughter's life.
Elzina Brown, 59, was gunned down on Jan. 3, 2013, at the Monroe Houses on Story Avenue.
Loved ones gathered at the mural at 760 Soundview Ave. Sunday to mark the three-year anniversary of her death.
Police say Brown's daughter, Diamond Dunn, was arguing with her boyfriend, Raymond Mayrant. Brown stepped in between them and was shot to death. Dunn survived.
Family and friends are hoping her sacrifice is never forgotten.
"For her birthday and death date we try to do something as a family to reference her name, to praise God, to be thankful for things that she's done for us," says Laura Dunn, Brown's daughter.
Mayrant is set to be sentenced on Tuesday.
