3 men, including corrections officer, accused of robbing armored vehicles in the Bronx

Three men, including a corrections officer, have been charged in a series of armored car robberies in the Bronx.

Police say 29-year-old Michael Santiago, a corrections officer employed by Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, 34-year-old Kenneth Smith and 20-year-old Bruce Collazo stole over $100,000 from aromored vehicles in the Bronx.

Officials say Santiago used to work as a driver for one of the armored vehicle companies.

They say between August and December 2015, Santiago, Smith, and Collazo participated in gunpoint robberies of armored car operators.

During the Dec. 15 robbery, a member of the crew exchanged gunfire with the operator of the armored vehicle before escaping on foot.

Police say a number of other men who also participated in the robberies are still at large.
