The approaching arrival of two new television studios in the Bronx could boost the local economy, according to the Bronx Economic Development Corporation.
Silvercup North Studios says it has converted a 115,000-square-foot complex at 295 Locust Ave. in Port Morris for film and television productions. It will open in June. York Studios says it will follow in 2017 with a second location at 1410 Story Ave. in Soundview.
Bronx Economic Development spokeswoman Marlene Cintron says tax breaks and space attracted studios to the Bronx over Manhattan.
She says the move is huge for economic development in the Bronx.
Silvercup North says the project will require 400 new hires when it opens, and create about 100 construction jobs.
Filming can infuse as much as $10,000 a day into the local economy, Cintron says.
