Surveillance video shows NYPD standoff with armed man

Surveillance video released by the NYPD shows the tense moments when police encounter a Bronx man after he fired shots in the streets.

It happened on Featherbend Lane and Nelson Avenue in Morris Heights around 10 p.m. on Jan. 11.

Police say two plainclothes officers arrested 31-year-old Edward Chatman after witnessing him shooting a gun.

Police say they heard gunshots during a routine patrol and saw people running.

The two police officers headed in the direction of the gunshots and saw Chatman shooting. Officers say they followed him, jumped out of their car and approached Chatman with guns drawn.

Police say they identified themselves as police officers and ordered Chatman to drop his weapon.

Chatman faces criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment charges.
