NYCHA tenants demand heat in building
Several tenants in a NYCHA complex in Claremont say they are without heat in their homes, and there is no relief in sight.
The Union Avenue Consolidation Site 166 complex is located on East 167th Street.
Tenants say they have reached out to Housing Department officials several times, and have been told for over a month that it will be fixed in 24 hours.
"I feel like I'm sleeping on the street because it's cold, it's cold, I can't handle this no more," says tenant Catalina Berrios.
Berrios claims her grandson was diagnosed with bronchiolitis due to the lack of heat in the home.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA, and a spokesperson said that while there are no known heating issues at this time, they have dispatched staff to the complex. They also urge residents who are experiencing heating issues to contact them.
