Archdiocese of New York removes Rev. Richard Gorman for child sex abuse allegations
The Archdiocese of New York says it has removed the Rev. Richard Gorman in response to allegations that he sexually abused children.
Attorney Michael Reck says his client suffered the abuse 30 years ago.
Church officials say Gorman has been a part of the Archdiocese of New York for decades. His most recent church position was as a prison apostolate.
The allegations of sexual abuse stem from his tenure at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Woodlawn.
Church officials say they followed standard procedure of alerting law enforcement officials to the accusations. The archdiocese also noted that the allegations had not yet been substantiated.
Gorman is a longstanding member of Community Board 12, most recently as its chairman. Gorman resigned Thursday from his position as chairman of Community Board 12, according to his lawyer, who says his client denies having performed any inappropriate activity.
