Former Bronx teacher, 62-year-old Deven Black, murdered at East Harlem homeless shelter
A man is accused of fatally stabbing and nearly decapitating a former Bronx teacher inside an East Harlem homeless shelter.
It happened Wednesday night at the Boulevard Homeless Shelter. Police say 62-year-old Deven Black was attacked and killed by his roomate at the shelter, 21-year-old Anthony White.
Police say White was frustrated over an iPhone that had gone missing weeks ago and began making random death threats to residents at the shelter.
Black only moved into the shelter two days prior. A former educator and librarian at Castle Hill Middle School in the Bronx, Black had a checkered past and lost his job two years ago after being convicted for grand larceny, according to public records.
White is accused of fatally stabbing Black in the neck and nearly decapitating his head.
Shelter officials say White was able to run out of the room and leave the shelter, he is now wanted by police.
