LGBT Youth Summit held in the Bronx

The LGBT Youth Summit was held at the Bronx Betances Community Center Saturday.
The free event aimed to bring awareness to the services and resources available to the LGBT community.
Leaders from all five boroughs came to talk to teens, including a few openly gay elected officials.
New York City Councilman James Vacca announced he was gay last week and says teens should not be afraid of who they are.
At the summit, young people got the opportunity to attend workshops focused around sexual health and self-esteem.
Experts say the Bronx has the largest LGBT community in New York City, but the least resources. Councilman Vacca believes it is the City Council's responsibility to fix the issue.
"I think we in the City Council have an obligation to bring those resources. I think we made a lot of progress, but I think we have a way to go," says Councilman Vacca.
The summit was part of a larger series of events taking place all over the city. All of the events are free and opened to the public.
