State officials hold unclaimed funds event in the Bronx
An unclaimed funds community awareness event was held Thursday in the Bronx.
Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner organized the event and said it was the only event where Bronx residents couldcheck if they have money owed to them.
According to New York City Comptroller Tom Dinapoli, New Yorkers are leaving about $13 billion on the table in unclaimed funds.
Officials at the event said it's as easy as typing your name into a database that finds out if you are owed money.
The Office of the New York State Comptroller says more than $1 million in lost money is returned to New Yorkers daily.
