Police: Woman raped in University Heights

Bronx police are investigating an alleged rape in the University Heights neighborhood Friday night.

Officials say a man followed a woman into the elevator of an East 183rd Street building around 10 p.m. As the elevator doors opened, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim from behind and assaulted her before raping her in the stairwell. The suspect took off with the victim's cash and two cellphones, police say.

He is described as an 18-year-old man who stands around 5 feet 8 inches tall, according to police.

He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
