Study: Women-owned business on the rise in BX

Women-owned businesses are booming in the Bronx, according to a new study.
The study by the Center for an Urban Future shows that all five boroughs saw an increase in the number of businesses owned by women between 2007 and 2012. But the study says the Bronx saw the most growth, with a 53 percent increase.
Bernadette Lamboy, owner of B-Happy Care Programs, says she decided to start her own day care after city cutbacks with the FDNY left her unemployed in 2004.
As a mother of a child with autism, Lamboy said the difficulty in finding a day care that could properly aid her child inspired her to provide a place where all children can safely play.
"I love it. I love what I do," said Lamboy. "I have the passion for this, I just love children. You just have to have the patience, the courage, and the knowledge in order to keep up with your business."
