Anti-violence rally held in Throgs Neck
The first ever anti-violence rally was held in Throgs Neck Saturday afternoon.
Activists filed along Dewey Avenue to speak out against gun violence.
The community was joined by officers from the 45th Precinct and Sen. Jeff Klein, who has put money toward expanding the group Stand Up to Violence to the Throgs Neck area.
The rally comes after two separate shootings that happened about a week ago near the Throgs Neck Houses. A woman and man were both injured in those incidents.
"We want to make sure no lives are lost. We want to make sure our young people understand that help is on the way and that's why this program is so successful," says Sen. Klein.
Members of the community say they hope this rally will prevent violent incidents in the future.
