Optometry program making house calls in the Bronx
A program that has doctors visiting the homes of hundreds of patients in Manhattan and Queens is now making house calls to the Bronx.
The SUNY College of Optometry's Homebound Program sends optometrists to the homes of patients who are otherwise not able to get to an office.
Homebound doctors perform examinations on patients and also take care of prescriptions.
Glasses are shipped in a matter of weeks and annual check-ups are administered as well.
The program is free to patients who use it, thanks to the $120,000 grant that brought the program to the Bronx.
