Race celebrates Garifuna Heritage Month

Some people are racing from the Bronx all the way to Brooklyn to celebrate Garifuna Heritage Month.

The 13-mile race begins at Brook Avenue in the Bronx and ends at Malcolm X Boulevard in Brooklyn.

The race is in honor of Garifuna Heritage Month, which began on March 11 and ends April 12.

It marks the 219th anniversary of the British forcing people of the Garifuna culture, who are of African descent, out of St. Vincent.
