50 police officers from the 47th Precinct in the Bronx participate in community pilot program

Officers from the 47th Precinct have been attending classes three days a week to learn from the Bronx community.

Over 50 police officers are enrolled in the pilot program at Edenwald Public Library.

The People's Police Academy is hosted by community leaders who want to teach police officers more about the people they serve.

The program was started by the Rev. Que English and the Rev. Divine Pryor, who saw a need to make officers more aware of the people in the community.

Organizers say the three-day intensive course is taught by neighborhood experts and historians.

Topics covered in the class range from race, stereotypes, and how the neighborhood has changed over the years.

Organizers hope the program will expand to other precincts.
