DOT explains Westchester Ave. lane closure
City transportation officials explained Monday the reason for a lane closure that residents say created excessive traffic when it began in January.
People who drive through the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Waters Place say they haven't received any explanation or seen any workers in the area. They also say the lane closure has turned a 5-minute drive through the area into a 25-minute one.
The Department of Transportation says it closed the lane under the L train on Westchester Avenue because an oversized truck caused structural damage on the bridge.
Officials say the lane will remain closed until repairs are made, but did not give a timeframe.
