Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders brought his campaign for the Democratic nomination for president to the Bronx Thursday.
Thousands of supporters turned out to St. Mary's Park in Mott Haven, hoping to get an up-close look at the candidate.
Hundreds of people couldn't even make it into the packed rally, but the senator visited them on the outskirts of the park before taking the main stage.
He gave an impromptu speech to the people stranded outside, targeting problems known to afflict the South Bronx like asthma, public housing and gentrification.
Supporters showed off shirts, buttons and signs emblazoned with pro-Sanders messages like his tagline, "Feel the Bern." Some people traveled from as far away as Boston.
