Officer convicted of manslaughter wants new trial

Lawyers for Peter Liang, the former NYPD officer convicted of manslaughter in February, asked for a new trial Tuesday.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Liang's lawyers filed a motion for a new trial, arguing that one of the jurors failed to disclose that his father served time in prison for manslaughter.

The juror was reportedly asked whether anyone close to him was ever accused of a crime.

Liang was convicted of shooting and killing Akai Gurley in a dark stairwell at the Pink Houses in East New York. The ex-officer says the shooting was an accident.
