45th Precinct lays out plan to stop violence
Officials with the NYPD's 45th Precinct laid out their plans to keep their area safe this summer at a monthly community council meeting Thursday.
They will deploy more officers and improve lighting in some areas, officials say.
The precinct includes Pelham Bay and Throgs Neck, where there were two shootings a few weeks ago.
The suspects in those shootings have been arrested, and both victims survived, but residents have held anti-violence rallies in the neighborhood to decry the spate of violence.
"It puts fear in the criminals' eyes," says resident Frank Conolly. "More cops is the answer. Quality of life has been great for years, and we want to keep it that way."
With its new officers, the precinct has 150 available.
