Lisette Bamenga found guilty of manslaughter in deaths of her children
Lisette Bamenga was found guilty of manslaughter in a Bronx courtroom Friday in connection with the deaths of her two children in 2012.
Bamenga remained emotionless as the judge read aloud the verdict, finding her guilty for two counts of manslaughter. She is now convicted of poisoning and drowning her 4-year-old son and 4-month-old daughter in a bathtub on July 5, 2012.
Her attorney said he had hoped that she would be found "not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect."
Bamenga avoided a first-degree murder conviction. which prosecutors had sought. They claimed she killed her children to get back at their allegedly cheating father.
She is scheduled to be sentenced on April 25 and could face up to 50 years behind bars.
