Randall Ave. apartments flooded due to leak
A major water leak at the Castle Hill Houses drove several tenants out of their apartments Friday morning.
The incident happened at 2125 Randall Ave. Residents say they were jolted out of their sleep at around 5:30 a.m. by the sound of gushing water.
They say a pipe in a neighbor's apartment broke, and the tenant was not home. Firefighters had to go through a window to shut the water off.
Resident Luis Nieves says he spent about two hours cleaning up the mess before New York City Housing Authority workers arrived to take over. He says this is the second time his apartment has been flooded.
NYCHA says the leak was caused by a broken washing machine hose in a neighboring apartment. They say washing machines are not standard in city housing buildings.
