Borough President Eric Adams kicked off Earth Week by leading cyclists in a bike-to-work ride.
The ride took place from Grand Army Plaza to Brooklyn Borough Hall with the goal of showcasing the positive environmental impact of cycling over driving.
This year's ride was dedicated to Lauren Davis, a cyclist who was struck and killed by a car in Clinton Hill about a year ago.
"No one should start their day leaving to use an environmentally friendly apparatus to get to and from the destination, and then lose their life in the process," said Davis' sister Danielle.
Danielle Davis said the Department of Transportation has since declared that it will put a bike lane on Classen Avenue.
News 12 has been told that Brooklyn residents are increasingly adopting cycling as a mode of transportation. According to Citi Bike, the number of cyclists grew by 60 percent in Bed-Stuy alone as of last year.
