Community Board 9 wants to rename Noble Park in honor of slain NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo, who died in the line of duty in November while responding to an armed domestic dispute.
CB9 wants to rename the surrounding street in his honor as well.
The board says community members and the NYPD's 43rd Precinct support the move, but the proposal will have to navigate the city's approval process before it comes to be.
"I think is the least we can do as a community for somebody who sacrificed their life working our community," says board member William Rivera.
As News 12 has reported, Tuozzolo and his partner were responding to a report that an armed man had broken into the apartment where his estranged wife was staying. The man, 35-year-old Manuel Rosales, fatally shot Tuozzolo before police killed him in the exchange of gunfire.
