Italian-themed mural makes debut along Arthur Ave.

An Italian-themed mural has made its debut along East Fordham Road and Hughes Avenue near famed Arthur Avenue.

The mural is located on a 100-foot-long wall. Store owners and artists Mark A and Ron Rundo are the masterminds behind the Mediterranean masterpiece.

"We're bringing this whole 'Italian' feeling back to Arthur Avenue to let the people know this is where it originated," Mike says.

The mural features original cartoon characters, most notably a pair of giant red tomatoes, Arthur Avenue signage, and elements from the cult classic film "A Bronx Tale."

The men say they hope to inspire visitors and encourage other artists to create murals in the area so that an art walk can become an attraction of Arthur Avenue, a place typically known for its restaurants.

On the mural the phrase "Next left, one of the great streets of America" are spray-painted next to a giant red arrow pointing toward Arthur Avenue.

The mural is set to be officially complete this weekend.
