Attorney General Eric Schneiderman releases tenant protection guide for immigrants

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman released a guide outlining protective measures for immigrant tenants living in the state.

Schneiderman says his office has seen a rise of tenant harassment reports especially among immigrants.

The guide provides legal advice as well as a hotline number that offers help in more than 200 languages.

Important points the guide makes are:

- You cannot be evicted because of immigration status;

- Rent-regulated tenants are more protected regardless of immigration status;

- Landlords can't remove tenants for being an immigrant; and,

-There are lawyers available to help if you're being harassed.
