Jewelry shop owner shot, injured in attemped robbery

A beloved jewelry shop owner was shot and injured in armed robbery attempt in Kingsbridge Saturday afternoon.

According to police sources, two black men believed to be in their 20s entered Marilyn's Diamond Collection located at 3264 Johnson Ave. at around 12:15 p.m. and asked to see a ring.

The 57-year-old owner then became suspicious and hit the panic button inside the store, police sources say. He was then shot in the wrist and abdomen by the armed assailants, who fled the store in a tan Ford Explorer with tinted windows.

Police say the shop owner is in stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital. No arrests have been made.

It was not immediately clear if the armed robbers made off with any property.
