Proposed retail space draws criticism from residents

A public hearing was held Tuesday so Bronx residents could let developers know how they felt about a proposed retail space in Baychester.

A vacant site located on East Gun Hill Road is being eyed by Grid Properties for an open and pedestrian-friendly space, which would include dining, shopping and buildings for affordable senior housing.

Members of the organization Speak Up For A Better Bronx say they don't want the space and would prefer to see something like a YMCA or a school.

Grid Properties has stressed that they have kept the community in mind and that Community Board 12 has given its approval to the project.
