NYCHA residents say garbage, rats plaguing their building

NYCHA residents at the Farragut Houses say they are tired of the deplorable conditions they have been living in and are calling on the city to step up.

The Fort Greene residents say that garbage and rat holes are everywhere.

"You have to stomp your feet to come out of the building because the rats run across the porch...and it's crazy, like we shouldn't have to be subjected to that living in these deplorable conditions," said one tenant.

Tenants tell News 12 that construction about three years ago lasted one week and was never completed.

They say they are scared to come out of their homes and are disgusted by the way they are being treated, but can't afford to leave.

News 12 reached out to NYCHA and a spokesperson said in part, "all of our residents deserve a safe and decent home. We can and must do better."

Officials promise an exterminator supervisor will inspect the site on Monday to ensure the problem is being addressed as quickly as possible.
