Expert offers tips tor allergy season

Allergy season is back, and one expert is offering tips to make it through with as few sneezes as possible.

Allergist Dr. Alan Kaufman says allergy season starts in March and peaks in May, when tree pollen is causing the most issues in the city.

He recommends over-the-counter medications such as Zyrtec, Claritin or Allegra, which have all dropped their previously required prescriptions.

If those don't work, Kaufman says allergy shots are available and given as an injection. Oral tablets can be taken to combat grass and ragweed pollen.

Kaufman says it's important to be proactive when it comes to allergy treatment.
