Man charged with murder in Tinton Ave. slaying
Police charged a 22-year-old man Tuesday in the slaying of a 21-year-old woman in the Forest Houses on Tinton Avenue.
The victim, Aaliyah Alder, was found with a single gunshot wound to the head in an eighth-floor stairwell Monday night.
The victim's friend's boyfriend, Davaughn Johnson, of 965 Tinton Ave., faces charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
Johnson said nothing to a line of reporters as police escorted him out of the 42nd Precinct building Tuesday night.
Alder's stepfather Patrick Murray says the victim was hanging out with friends after work before she was killed.
Sources close to the investigation say a physical confrontation involving a blade may have preceded the shooting, but the circumstances have not been officially confirmed.
Surveillance video shows Alder and a friend entering an elevator minutes before three men, including the suspected shooter, left the building. The suspected gunman is shown covering his face and had one hand in his pocket. Another man in the video appeared to have a hand injury and sliced jacket.
