Brooklyn artist memorializes slain Bronx EMT

A Brooklyn artist is dedicating a portrait to the Bronx emergency medical technician killed in the line of duty in Soundview last week.

Kenny Altidor, of Canarsie, says he felt an obligation to honor Yadira Arroyo, a 44-year-old mother of five, after he learned that she was run over and killed by her own stolen ambulance.

"I want the family to know that she was a hero," Altidor says. "She was someone who was very important to our community."

Altidor created a life-sized portrait of Arroyo and says he will give it to her family at her funeral Saturday.
