Police: Pedestrian struck, killed on Bruckner Blvd.

An oil truck struck and killed a woman on Bruckner Boulevard Thursday around noon in a gruesome collision that witnesses say shocked them.

Police later identified the victim as Danielle Leathers, 49, of 190 Willow Ave. They say she was crossing eastbound against the light when a southbound Mack truck slammed into her near East 138th Street.

She was taken to Lincoln Hospital and pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m., police say.

The driver remained at the scene.

The Department of Transportation says the intersection is a top priority for the mayor's Vision Zero program, which aims to reduce pedestrian traffic deaths to zero.
