Day care operator gets prison in toddler’s death

A former day care provider was sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison in connection with the death of a toddler in her care.

Athena Skeeter agreed to a plea deal in connection with the death of Carell Williamson, which the medical examiner found stemmed from blunt force trauma. Police said the boy also had burns on his body.

Williamson's family wanted a stiffer punishment.

Thomasona Cheatham, the victim's mother, did not have custody of the child. But she says the boy's father, Carlyle Williamson, questioned why their 1-year-old son came home with bruises and other injuries.

Carlyle Williamson says Skeeter responded by giving him excuses.
