FDNY holds vigil for EMT killed on the job

Mourners and FDNY colleagues gathered for a vigil Tuesday evening to remember the EMT who was killed on the job last Thursday in Soundview.

The candlelight ceremony for Yadira Arroyo took place at EMS Station 26 on the Boston Road, where she worked.

Wake services are being held Thursday and Friday at a funeral home on Morris Park Avenue.

As News 12 reported, the 44-year-old mother of five was killed after a man stole her ambulance and ran over her with it.

According to authorities, someone alerted Arroyo and her partner to a man riding on their rear bumper. The two EMTs stopped at Watson Avenue and White Plains Road, and the man carjacked them and struck them both with the vehicle.

Jose Gonzalez faces several charges in the incident, including murder.

His attorney says he is mentally ill and did not act intentionally.
