Woman struck, killed by car on the Major Deegan

A woman died after being struck by a car on the Major Deegan Expressway Monday, according to police.

The incident happened Monday morning around 6 a.m. as the unidentified woman was walking southbound along the expressway.

Police say she was struck by a 70-year-old man driving a four-door 2006 Chevy Sedan.

The man stayed on the scene, and police say no charges have been filed.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Delays were reported after the incident prompted the closure of two southbound lanes on Expressway near 233rd Street.

Traffic was back to normal by 11 a.m.
