Bronx woman raises funds to open bookstore bar
A Bronx woman hoping to open a boozy bookstore has raised enough money to make it happen.
Noelle Santos, 30, says she set up an Indiegogo page accepting donations and has already surpassed her goal of $100,000 to open the "Lit Bar." The shop would be the only bookstore in the borough to be complete with wine and a space to hang out.
Santos says she grew up going to Barnes and Noble's and that the Bronx needs somewhere new to keep reading. She says she'll be using the money raised and will also be dipping into her own pocket to open up shop.
"The excitement is there. We need to bring a bookstore to the Bronx," Santos says. "We got the money, now we just need to secure a location and then start construction."
Santos says she is hoping to find a space in either Hunts Point or Mott Haven so that it's easily accessible to people across the city.
She says she is hoping to open up in the fall.
