Police: Child escapes alleged kidnapper, sex offender

A convicted sex offender allegedly kidnapped a 10-year-old boy who was walking to school Friday, but the child escaped, according to authorities.

At around 8:30 a.m., police say the man lured the boy in his gray van from the sidewalk near P.S. 7 and St. John's School and drove to a basement apartment at 3817 Bailey Ave.

The victim escaped and ran to the NYPD's 50th Precinct building, where he was able to identify the suspect.

Police say the suspect is a registered sex offender. Police arrested him at his home.

The child was not injured.
