Historical society to celebrate BX women with free lecture

The Bronx County Historical Society is holding an event this weekend to honor influential women from the borough in celebration of Women's History Month.

The lecture is being led by historical society educator Vivian Davis.

She says she plans to walk the audience through figures from the past that they might not have heard of before, such as Emilia Cassanova. She immigrated to the Bronx from Cuba with her family and in 1869 she created the Daughters of Cuba League, which sent supplies to the Cuban revolution.

The lecture is free and will be held at the Bronx County Archives at 1 p.m. Saturday.
