Big dig continues in Co-op City amid deep freeze

Snow removal continued around the city Wednesday, including in Co-op City, where mounds of snow and ice formed around parked cars after plows passed by.

One man and his grandson were out for hours Wednesday, chipping away at ice around a trapped car the day after a nor'easter dumped snow, slush and sleet across the region.

Due to the extensive snow cleanup, the suspension of alternate-side parking has been extended through Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low-20s overnight, with wind chills near zero, according to forecasts. Highs Thursday will be in the mid-30s.

Highs for St. Patrick's Day on Friday may reach the low-40s.
