Hundreds of snow laborers aid DSNY efforts

Snow removal continued around the city Wednesday, including in Co-op City, where mounds of snow and ice blocked sidewalks and bus shelters.

The Department of Sanitation says it had more than 500 emergency snow laborers working to clear the paths.

In all, there are thousands of DSNY-registered laborers who work for $15 an hour on an interim basis to help.

They are largely responsible for clearing the 14,124 bus stops and 5,339 bus shelters around the city.

As a reminder, the DSNY says that anyone in charge of a lot or building is responsible for clearing snow and ice off the adjacent sidewalks.
