Bronx native honors Latina pioneers

A Bronx native and poet is celebrating the women of the Bronx while raising awareness for important issues.



Poet and performance artist Maria Aponte created the nonprofit organization Latina 50 Plus.



Her event held at the Bronx Museum honored Latina pioneers and discussed issues such as domestic violence and women's health.



Aponte honored women in six categories: the arts, education, community service, literature, law and health care.
