Mourners attend wake of Latin jazz flutist Dave Valentin

Mourners of jazz legend Dave Valentin gathered in Parkchester Friday to attend the musician's wake and say their final goodbyes.

The musician passed away Wednesday at the age of 64, due to complications from a stroke and Parkinson's disease.

Dave Valentin's storied career as a Latin jazz flutist took him around the world performing on six continents. Friends and family of Valentin say they remember a kind and funny soul who loved his Puerto Rican roots and most of all, was proud to be born and raised in The Bronx.

Valentin won a Grammy for Best Latin Jazz album in 2003 and released dozens of albums over the years.

Valentin's cousin, who was also his caretaker for the past few months, invites all his fans to attend his funeral tomorrow at Holy Cross Church in Soundview at 10 a.m.
