Montefiore program treats eating disorders in adolescents
A relatively new program at Montefiore Medical Center aims to treat eating disorders in adolescents.
Dr. Michelle Lupkin, a clinical psychologist at Montefiore, says there was no place in the Bronx for adolescents to get treated for an eating disorder, especially if they were on Medicaid. That's why she launched a program at Montefiore on Jan. 1.
The program is only taking patients from the Bronx due to the dearth of services available. But before treatment can begin, Lupkin says parents and loved ones need to first look out for warning signs in their young children and teens.
Those signs include shifts in mood, depression and changes in eating patterns.
Lupkin says that those indicators might let parents know that their child needs help.
