Bronx FYE closing after 15 years
The last FYE music store in the Bronx says it's closing its doors for good after 15 years of business.
FYE on White Plains Road will close its doors after the landlord declined to request a lease extension, according to FYE's parent company, Trans World Entertainment.
The news came amid recent closures of a Bronx art supply store and the closure of the only book store in the Bronx, Barnes and Noble.
Rosaly Ruiz says she has many memories of the store, not only as a customer but as an employee.
"There were so many different types of people forming bonds in between the aisles, you don't see that anymore," she says.
White Plains Road BID director Joe Thompson says he would like to see either a toy store or a sit-down family-style restaurant fill the space located right next to the Pelham Bay train station.
One resident says the era of overpriced CDs and DVDs is over and that he hopes a bookstore opens up at the location.
"I actually think it's a shame that the Bronx has no bookstore but we do have one of the last FYEs. Overpriced DVDs and CDs are something we just don't need anymore," he says.
