A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally stabbing his girlfriend.
It's been nearly four years since the death of Katherine German, and her family in court Friday heard an apology from her convicted killer.
Dionis Espinal pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the 2013 deadly stabbing of his child's mother.
Investigators say Espinal followed German and a friend out of the Paradise Motor Inn on Boston Road, got in his cab and chased the two down Pelham Parkway. Espinal then side-swiped her SUV, exited his cab and stabbed her several times.
The assistant district attorney read an impact statement on behalf of German's family that describes the pain they have endured and the future of a baby that will grow up without parents.
German's family did not wish to speak with News 12 on camera, but her mother said they are relieved the legal process is now over.
