The first female president of the Vulcan Society - a 77-year-old group for black firefighters in New York City - was introduced Wednesday. 

Regina Wilson, of Engine 219, was one of just seven African-Americans in her 1999 fire academy class. Of the 286 that graduated, she was the only woman.

"I was underestimated," she says. "I was the only woman there and they already counted me out."

Wilson was a first responder on 9/11, and now wants more women, especially of color, to join the FDNY. She calls it the greatest job in the world. 

"I've been through the most grueling - mentally and physically - aspect done to becoming a firefighter, so who can tell me that I can't do anything now?" she asks.
