The city announced some major Vision Zero projects on Thursday.
The Grand Concourse has been named a Vision Zero priority corridor because of how many crashes have happened on it in the past.
As part of the City Hall in your Borough tour, officials announced safety improvements that have been made to the busy road, and how cops will make it even safer in the weeks to come.
The city's Department of Transportation commissioner says there have been no fatal accidents on the Grand Concourse in more than two years. They're attributing this decline to the redesign of the roadway, which now has shortened crosswalks, more concrete islands for pedestrians to wait on and a reduced speed limit of 25 miles an hour.
Officials announced on Thursday that the changes will be made permanent, in a five phase project.
The de Blasio administration has committed to making the changes permanent as part of a $164 million capital plan investment currently being undertaken by the Department of Design and Construction.
The project is currently in its second phase, reconstructing and beautifying the major Bronx boulevard for 3.5 miles from East 161st Street to East 198th Street.
City officials also launched the Know Your Limit campaign in time for Memorial Day weekend. It aims to keep drunk drivers off of the roads.
